A top Kremlin official states that Moscow reserves the right to conduct air strikes on terrorist training bases run by the Taliban in Afghanistan. The official's statement is in response to the deteriorating security situation in the region and the growing threat posed by terrorist groups that are using Afghanistan as a base of operations. Currently, the Taliban control most of Afghanistan and provide a safe haven for a number of extremist groups, including Al-Qaeda. The Russian government, along with other countries in the region, is increasingly concerned about the spread of terrorism and extremism and its potential impact on regional stability and security.
