Brazil and the U.S. agree to sign a technical-safeguards accord that would allow Brazil to enter the commercial satellite launch industry while providing U.S. aerospace companies with a new launch site option. The agreement is seen as a significant development in the global aerospace industry, as Brazil had been largely excluded from the market due to concerns over its nuclear program.Under the terms of the agreement, Brazil agreed to comply with U.S. regulations regarding the use and transfer of sensitive technology, and to allow U.S. officials to monitor its launch activities to ensure compliance. In exchange, the U.S. agreed to provide technical assistance and support to Brazil in developing its launch capabilities, and to allow Brazilian launches to use U.S.-built rockets and other equipment.
