The antitrust regulator of the European Commission intensifies their examination of the nuclear power industry by commencing an in-depth investigation into the joint venture for equipment production proposed by Siemens AG of Germany, and France's Framatome SA and Cogema SA. The commission cautions that the proposed partnership would lead to the three companies having an excessively large share of the market in the manufacturing of certain nuclear power equipment, and added that "the transaction has to be assessed within a broader context, taking into account the overall impact on nuclear technology markets."
