Mr. John Agyekum Kufor, will take over as the new President of Ghana. He is the current president of New Patriotic Party (NPP) and was candidate in the presidential poll. After the return of civilian rule in Ghana, Kufuor became the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs under the government of Ignatius Kutu Acheampong from 1972 to 1975. In 1979, he was appointed the Secretary for Local Government in the People's National Party government of Hilla Limann. However, the government was overthrown by a military coup in 1981, and Kufuor was arrested and detained for several months.Following his release, Kufuor was elected as a member of parliament in 1996 and served as the Minority Leader in parliament
