After months of takeover speculation, Wanadoo SA, a French Internet service provider, has reached an agreement to acquire Freeserve PLC, the largest Internet service provider in Britain, in a friendly all-share offer. The deal, which is valued at approximately 2.52 billion euros ($2.25 billion), will bring together two companies backed by major stakeholders; Wanadoo is controlled by state-owned France Telecom SA, which owns 88% of the company, while Freeserve is 80% owned by Dixons Group PLC.
