A meeting of officials of the 135 countries of the World Trade Organization agreed to launch negotiations within six weeks on lowering barriers to trade in farm produce and services. The negotiations aimed to address the long-standing issues and challenges facing the agricultural sector, such as market access, export subsidies, and domestic support. These issues has been a major source of contention in previous WTO negotiations, particularly between developed and developing countries.
