The Taiwan Stock Exchange Weighted-Price Index rose 152.49, or 1.5%, to 10008.88, its highest close in more than 29 months. Advancing issues led decliners 423 to 131, with 46 unchanged. Volume was worth 231.15 billion New Taiwan dollars. Shares closed above the 10000 mark after a seven-day holiday with support from U.S. stocks and Taiwan's bright economic outlook.
