Microsoft releases Windows 2000, the successor to Windows NT 4.0. Windows 2000 is a significant release for Microsoft, as it was designed to be a more stable, reliable, and secure operating system for business users than its predecessors. Windows 2000 includes several new features and improvements over Windows NT 4.0, including improved support for Plug and Play devices, better system management tools, and enhanced security features such as support for Kerberos authentication and the Encrypting File System (EFS).
