Jamil Mahuad is sent into exile and Gustavo Noboa becomes President of Ecuador. He was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, in 1937, and he earned a law degree from the Universidad Católica Santiago de Guayaquil in 1962. After completing his studies, he worked as a lawyer and law professor, and he also became involved in politics.Noboa's political career began in the 1970s, when he was appointed as a provincial governor by the military government of Ecuador. He later served as a member of the National Congress, and he was elected as the Mayor of Guayaquil in 1984. After leaving office as Mayor, Noboa continued to be active in politics, and he served as the Vice President of Ecuador under President Jamil Mahuad from 1998 to now.
