The eight most powerful nations have issued a joint communique today, urging India and Pakistan to resume their stalled dialogue as soon as possible and to adhere to the principles outlined in the Lahore declaration. They also implored both nations to refrain from taking any actions that could exacerbate the already tense situation in the subcontinent. The communique was released at the conclusion of a two-day meeting of G-8 Foreign Ministers, where they drafted a blueprint for their upcoming heads of government summit later this month. Furthermore, they called on both India and Pakistan to participate in international efforts to strengthen the nuclear non-proliferation regime.
