Coffee prices are currently experiencing another dramatic surge in markets around the world, spurred by reports of light, patchy frost in Brazil's coffee-growing regions and expectations of another cold snap early on Tuesday. As soon as the opening bell rang, market participants braced themselves for an intense session that drove prices at the Coffee, Sugar & Cocoa Exchange up by 9.7 cents to $1.0105 per pound. Within minutes of the opening, prices hit a high of $1.04 per pound, marking the highest price for coffee in six weeks.
