Mr. Bernard Miyet, Chief of United Nations Peacekeeping, is en route to Sierra Leone amidst growing concerns over the recent surge in violence. The UN has been alarmed at the increased fighting in the region in the past few days. The Under Secretary General for Peacekeeping is scheduled to arrive in Freetown on Tuesday to boost diplomacy and provide much-needed morale support to the UN forces. Unfortunately, the Revolutionary United Front led by Mr. Foday Sankoh is holding 500 of the UN forces as hostages, making the situation more challenging.
