The political fate of Fiji's Indian-origin Prime Minister, Mr. Mahendra Pal Chaudhry, is uncertain on this day as reports emerge from the capital city of Suva that he has been forcibly removed from Parliament by rebels led by Mr. George Speight. Eyewitnesses in the Fijian capital and elsewhere in the South Pacific region have confirmed these accounts, stating that Mr. Chaudhry was being held hostage by the rebels and subjected to gunpoint threats.
