North and South Korea have pledged to intensify their efforts to promote cross-border exchanges and expand economic cooperation, with the aim of hastening the reconciliation between the long-time adversaries. Following a four-day visit by a representative of North Korean leader, Kim Jong-Il, the two nations issued a joint statement committing to doing everything possible to implement agreements made subsequent to the landmark June summit between the two leaders. "South and North Korea have agreed to proceed in good faith with issues previously discussed in talks," the statement read.
