NextEra Energy Inc. announces a $2.6 billion agreement to acquire the majority of Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc., aiming to bring cleaner and renewable energy to Hawaii. The deal includes the acquisition of Hawaiian Electric's electric utilities, which serve approximately 95% of the state's population, while the banking services provided through American Savings Bank will be spun off into a separate publicly traded company.
