The United States announces it will allow beef imports from Ireland, the first European Union country permitted to sell beef in the U.S. since the mad cow disease scare over 15 years ago. Ireland gains access to the lucrative U.S. market after American authorities inspected its beef production systems. This move is estimated to generate annual exports worth at least 25 million euros ($30 million).
