Credit Suisse Group AG tentatively agrees to pay nearly $2.5 billion to settle allegations of aiding Americans in evading taxes. The settlement includes a $1.7 billion payment to the Justice Department, a $100 million payment to the Federal Reserve, and approximately $600 million to the New York State Department of Financial Services. If confirmed, this settlement would mark an escalation in the U.S. government's efforts to crack down on financial institutions involved in tax evasion schemes.
