Preliminary counts show that the National Party, led by John Key, secures a majority of 61 seats in New Zealand's 51st Parliament, the first time since the adoption of the Mixed Member Proportional voting system in 1994. The official results, to be released on 4 October 2014, will confirm the National Party's victory and the formation of the new government.
