The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry officially adds four new chemical elements, 113, 115, 117, and 118, to the periodic table. Scientists from Russia and the United States provided substantial evidence for their existence. The elements were temporarily named ununtrium, ununpentium, ununseptium, and ununoctium.
