Lockheed Martin Corp., the world's largest defense contractor, announces its $9 billion acquisition of Sikorsky Aircraft, a prominent helicopter maker, from United Technologies Corp. This strategic move allows Lockheed to strengthen its military portfolio by adding the largest military helicopter manufacturer. Concurrently, Lockheed plans to divest a similar-sized group of nonmilitary businesses, focusing on its core defense and aerospace operations.
