Nigeria achieves a significant milestone in global efforts to eradicate polio, successfully stopping transmission of the disease within the country. This leaves only Pakistan and Afghanistan as the remaining countries with active transmission. However, eliminating the virus in these two countries poses substantial challenges. The global target for polio eradication is pushed back to 2019, with the need for additional funding of $1.5 billion.
