Russia has formally withdrawn its signature from the founding statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), following the court's report labeling the annexation of Crimea as an occupation. This symbolic rejection undermines global efforts to pursue genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. Recently, South Africa, Burundi, and Gambia have also signaled intentions to leave the ICC, citing bias towards Africa. Russia, which signed the Rome statute in 2000 but never ratified it, announced the move under President Vladimir Putin's orders, criticizing the tribunal as "one-sided and inefficient." Despite the symbolic nature of this gesture, it signals Russia's disinterest in future cooperation with the ICC.
