Tardigrades, also known as water bears, are hailed as the toughest creatures on Earth, capable of surviving extreme conditions. These microscopic animals can endure boiling temperatures, near absolute zero cold, high pressures, and even the vacuum of space. Researchers have thawed tardigrades that were frozen for 30 years, and upon awakening, they were able to reproduce. Their resilience makes them likely to survive cataclysms and potentially outlast most other forms of life on the planet.
