Haiti's government launches a campaign to re-establish its army, aiming to recruit approximately 500 men and women. The army will assist in dealing with natural disasters and patrolling borders as the United Nations mission plans to leave Haiti in October. However, critics argue that the small budget should be allocated to the national police force of about 15,000 officers. The recruitment drive is open to individuals between 18 and 25 years old who have passed their secondary education exams.
