Baldwin Lonsdale, the President of Vanuatu, passes away suddenly from a heart attack at the age of 67. Esmon Saimon, the Parliament Speaker, assumes the role of acting president. Lonsdale, an Anglican priest, had been the leader of the Pacific archipelago since 2014. His tenure included overseeing the extensive reconstruction efforts after Cyclone Pam and taking a strong stance against corruption within the government.
