South Koreans participate in a presidential election, resulting in Moon Jae-in of the Democratic Party of Korea winning the election. The early presidential elections were called after the impeachment and removal of Park Geun-hye. Conducted in a single round using a first-past-the-post system, the elections were originally scheduled for December 2017 but were brought forward following the Constitutional Court's decision to uphold Park's impeachment. Moon succeeds Park, with Hwang Kyo-ahn serving as the acting president during the transition.
