Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the former Ethiopian Foreign Minister and Health Minister, is elected as the new Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO). Dr. Tedros, the first African to hold this position, succeeded Dr. Margaret Chan. He is a public health official and researcher with a background in community health. Dr. Tedros has played significant roles in responding to the Ebola virus epidemic, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and the 2022 monkeypox outbreak.
