Conservationists announce that the snow leopard is no longer considered an endangered species but has been reclassified as "vulnerable." After a three-year assessment by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, it is estimated that there are at least 4,000 snow leopards in the wild, although the risk of extinction remains high. Efforts to protect this Himalayan big cat and its habitat continue to be critical.
