Google has entered into a $1.1 billion agreement with HTC, a Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer, to enhance its smartphone business. While Google will not take a stake in HTC, a number of HTC employees will join Google. HTC has faced difficulties competing with Apple and Samsung in the smartphone market. The deal is expected to close in early 2018, subject to regulatory approval.
