A female Fernandina Galápagos tortoise, thought to be extinct for over a century, is discovered on Fernandina Island in the Galápagos. The tortoise species, Chelonoidis phantasticus, was last confirmed in 1906. The recent discovery brings hope for the conservation of this critically endangered species and offers an opportunity to study and protect it. It is considered a significant achievement in tortoise conservation efforts.
