Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, a Nigerian diplomat and political scientist, is elected President of the United Nations General Assembly. He assumes office in September, succeeding María Fernanda Espinosa from Peru. Muhammad-Bande previously served as Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva and held prominent positions in academia and governance. His presidency aims to contribute to global affairs and the UN's agenda.
