The European Union confirms that UK Prime Minister Theresa May's requested extension date of 30 June is not feasible due to upcoming EU elections. EU leaders agree that if May's deal is approved next week, a shorter extension until 22 May is available for the necessary legislation to be passed. However, if the deal fails, the UK is given until 12 April to decide whether it will participate in EU elections.
