President Vjosa Osmani of Kosovo announces that the country will submit an application for European Union (EU) membership by the end of the year. The declaration is made during an EU-Western Balkans summit in Tirana, emphasizing Kosovo's commitment to EU-mediated talks with Serbia to resolve outstanding differences. The application will bring Kosovo, which declared independence from Serbia in 2008, into the EU entry process alongside Albania, Bosnia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia. Both leaders express dedication to the EU-sponsored dialogue as a means to reach a final agreement.
