During the European Union-African Union summit, six countries - Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, and Tunisia - were announced as recipients of the technology required to produce mRNA vaccines in Africa. The establishment of the global mRNA technology transfer hub aims to support vaccine production in low- and middle-income countries. The hub, initially addressing the COVID-19 emergency, has the potential to expand manufacturing capacity for other health products. The selected countries will receive training and support to commence vaccine production based on international standards.
