Novak Djokovic, the reigning Men's Singles champion of 2021, has been detained by the Australian Border Force. This action was taken because Djokovic failed to present a legitimate medical exemption for not being vaccinated against COVID-19, as required by federal guidelines. Although the Victoria State Government and Tennis Australia had previously approved his exemption based on their own guidelines, it was not endorsed by the federal Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation.
