Australia has tied its hottest recorded temperature after a coastal town in Western Australia reported a scorching 50.7°C (123.26°F) on Thursday. The temperature in Onslow matched a record set in 1962. Surrounding areas could see further records broken as temperatures are expected to rise slightly on Friday. The extreme heat follows recent bushfires in Western Australia, including one that forced evacuations after consuming over 6,000 hectares of land. The Bureau of Meteorology urged people to stay indoors, use air conditioning, and stay hydrated. Temperatures are forecasted to cool down in the coming days.
