The European Commission reaches an agreement to establish USB Type-C as the standardized charging port for mobile phones, tablets, and cameras across the European Union by autumn 2024. By the conclusion of 2024, all devices sold in the EU must feature a USB Type-C port. Furthermore, starting from spring 2026, this obligation will extend to laptops as well. This new legislation, endorsed by plenary on Tuesday with 602 votes in favor, 13 against, and 8 abstentions, aligns with the broader EU initiative to minimize electronic waste and enable consumers to opt for more sustainable options.
