Mauna Loa, the world's largest active volcano, has erupted for the first time since 1984. The eruption is occurring in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and is not currently posing a threat to nearby communities, according to the US Geological Survey. Lava is flowing down one side of the volcano in the Northeast Rift Zone. The eruption has prompted an ash advisory, with the possibility of volcanic gas, fine ash, and Pele's Hair being carried downwind. Some flights have been affected, and a small amount of ashfall is expected on parts of the island.
