India's Supreme Court declares a significant ruling, striking down a section of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act that previously denied unmarried women access to abortion. The decision effectively legalizes the procedure for all women up to the 24th week of pregnancy. Additionally, the ruling acknowledges that compelling a woman to continue a pregnancy could potentially amount to marital rape. Notably, marital rape is currently not recognized as a criminal offense in India.
