India’s telecom ministry orders all smartphone makers to pre-install the government’s Sanchar Saathi cybersecurity app on new devices within 90 days and to block users from deleting it. Manufacturers must also push the app to older phones via software updates. The government says the app is vital to curb cyber fraud and secure telecom networks, but privacy advocates warn the mandate threatens user consent and expands state access to personal data.
