Bissau-Guinean military in power after coup...
The Bissau-Guinean military installs General Horta Inta-A Na Man as interim leader for one year, while President Umaro Sissoco Embaló is flown to Senegal. Opposition candidate Fernando Dias da Costa alleges the coup is staged to block election results he claims to have won. Gunfire is heard in Bissau as residents flee. General Denis N’Canha declares a military takeover, imposes checkpoints and a curfew, while Portugal urges a return to constitutional order.
