Amidst 50 active volcanoes. A long-dormant Ethiopian volcano erupts for the first time in 12,000 years, sending ash across the Red Sea toward Yemen and Oman. The Hayli Gubbi volcano in Afar erupts on Sunday, covering nearby Afdera village in ash. Local official Mohammed Seid reports no casualties but warns of severe economic impact as livestock lose grazing grounds. Satellite imagery from the Toulouse VAAC also confirms the unexpected eruption.
