France’s Constitutional Council strikes down a law that would have banned children under 15 from using social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. Judges rule that the measure imposes a disproportionate restriction on freedom of expression and communication. They say the law applies too broadly, including to services where risks to minors are not clearly proven, and fails to consider each child’s age, maturity, or family situation. The court also notes that parents are not given enough authority to permit or limit access in the child’s interest.
