The UN General Assembly adopts the “Correct the Map” resolution, urging global institutions to reduce reliance on the Mercator projection and use more accurate area-based maps such as Equal Earth. Backed by the African Union and led by Togo, the resolution passes with 164 votes in favour, six abstentions, and only the United States voting against. Though non-binding, it pushes schools, governments, and digital platforms to represent Africa’s true scale.
