North Korea formally amends its constitution today, removing all references to the peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula and officially adopting Kim Jong Un’s “two-state” doctrine. The revision recognizes South Korea as a separate and hostile state, deletes language describing Koreans as compatriots, and strengthens Kim’s exclusive authority over nuclear forces. The move marks the end of decades of reunification policy and signals a deeper military and ideological divide, reinforcing North Korea’s nuclear posture and reducing prospects for diplomatic engagement with Seoul.
