The United States House of Representatives overwhelmingly passes the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act in a 396–13 vote, marking one of the most significant U.S. housing reform efforts in decades. The legislation aims to address America’s worsening affordability crisis by reducing zoning and construction barriers, expanding housing supply, limiting large institutional purchases of single-family homes, and increasing local lending support. It also encourages modular and prefabricated housing while rewarding communities that expand housing availability. The bill gains broad bipartisan support as rising housing, fuel, and living costs leave millions of Americans spending large portions of their income on rent and mortgages, making homeownership increasingly unattainable for many families.
