Global logistics costs are surging as geopolitical conflicts and carbon taxes end the era of cheap ocean freight. Ships avoiding the Red Sea and Suez Canal reroute around Africa, adding 15–20 days and nearly $1 million in fuel costs per voyage. Suez traffic remains 70% below normal levels, while Asia-Europe freight rates rise up to 400% and Asia–U.S. West Coast rates jump over 140%. The EU’s maritime carbon tax now adds about $168 per container and increases freight costs by up to 12%. Global shipping emissions rise 14%, while higher transport costs fuel inflation and heavily impact smaller exporters worldwide.
