Gaza faces the world’s most severe economic crisis on record, with UNCTAD estimating recovery and reconstruction needs at $71.5 billion. The report says 92% of economic establishments are damaged or destroyed, infrastructure losses reach $35.2 billion, and daily per capita GDP has collapsed to just $0.58. Unemployment exceeds 90%, while agriculture, industry, and construction have almost stopped functioning. Prices remain 274% above 2022 levels, pushing nearly the entire population into multidimensional poverty and raising fears of wider banking collapse in the occupied Palestinian territory.
